No car, no air for three weeks in Spain

I have learned so much from the forums I have found, but no answers this question. Can we take a bus to a city such as Avila and find a place to stay without making reservations? We are traveling the first two weeks in June. Would most towns have a tourist booking office?

Hi Jackie,

I'm sorry but I don't know that part of Spain. What I do know is that travel by Bus is fairly easy in Spain from my own experience of travelling around Barcelona and San Sebastian and also getting a bus between the two cities when the train line was closed! :x We were in Spain at the beginning of June and booked most of our accommodation when we arrived in local towns. There were always beds available but some of our first choice pensions where full and some of the lower accommodation was very basic. The main thing to watch out for is if there is a local festival on, if there is then you will have a real challenge with accommodation and travel. In terms of tourist offices, I seem to remember most medium sized towns having a decent set up with English speaking staff. A similar standard to the UK.

Avila is close to Madrid is it not? I hope you like the heat! A lot of the Spanish retreat from Madrid to the coast in the summer for cooler weather!

Have a great trip.

I mostly get around Spain by train, but buses are also easy. Early June you shouldn't have a problem finding accommodation. There are tourist offices, and information at stations in large cities. Do you have a Lonely Planet or Rough Guide? They have lots of listings and you can also get plenty of information online.

The Rough Guide, Seat61.com cover travel planning. There are helpful, English speaking, information offices at Atocha station (Madrid) and major bus stations, as well as local and national offices in the cities. Download town plans of each place so you can find your way to railway and bus stations. Local town websites can be useful too.

Hello there, I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to get to Brindisi without flying. We've got two young children and would really like to take a boat and a train to add to the adventure of the trip. We would be setting off from Oxford. Many thanks.
