Route details for Cameron Highlands (Tanah Rata) to George Town

We headed to the main bus station the day we wanted to head off. There were a couple of operators to choose from so prices were reasonable. Somehow we ended on a Luxury 1st class bus, it was not brand new but it had just three large seats per row and loads of leg room. It was the best bus we travelled on in S.E Asia during our 7 weeks there.
To get to Georgetown we had to change busses at Ipoh and then had to get a ferry from Butterworth. Although later we realised that there was a bridge to Penang Island so the ferry is not necessary but a nice way to come into any city apart from the cattle drive to get onto the ferry. Once at the other side it was a bit of a walk to get to accommodation. There were a lot less tourists on this route than our trip to the Cameron Highlands and once we got to Georgetown we realised why as it’s a dusty working city. In fact I think we were the only westerners on the ferry from Butterworth to Georgetown.
