This was my daily commute for 18 months. Most of the trains are run by Scotrail, you can catch them from either Waverly station or Haymarket station in Edinburgh. The train takes you over the fourth railway bridge, an engineering masterpiece which leaves me in awe every time I pass over it. The scenery along this section of Scotland is lovely, you can see the Pentland hills which sit behind Edinburgh, the Forth estuary and the seals that hang out on the Rocks just after the pretty village of Aberdour. The train then heads inland past the Lomond hills before you get to my hometown of Cupar. St. Andrews is just a short hop away, the best way to get there is to stay on the train until Leuchars and then get a bus or taxi from the train station.
