The driver was friendly and chatted to us as best he could. This journey stands out from all others in terms of driving hazards, I don’t seem to remember much of the scenery! It was a 9hr journey so I tried to get some sleep, only to wake up on several occasions as we undertook something on the inside verge of the road, in the invisible middle lane, on a corner or even better when we were using the verge on the other site of the road. Although the road may have looked to us as if it only had two lanes, the local drivers drove as if there were five!
As the adrenaline subsided we go to our food stop at about the 4hr mark. The food was good and we were not rushed to get back on the road. The second half of the journey was just as hazardous as the first but after another 4hrs, after an hour or so after darkness we go to our hotel in Yogyakarta.
