Route notes
We tried to do this route by boat but in the end had to fly as “the boat was broken” There was no timeframe on it being fixed but the helpful lady at the tourist information centre who spoke excellent English phone the operators and found out that it had been out of action for two weeks! It had taken us a day or so to work out where to buy tickets as the lonely planet listed a few agents we were unable to find any of them. After a bit of hunting we tracked down the tourist information centre which is located in the Jakarta Theatre Building, JI Wahid Hasyim 9. It’s a posh building, from street level the main landmark is a Burger King! The tourist information centre is within the same complex. We were told that the boat runs every few days and that it takes about 30hrs with no stops. I’d be interested to hear about how anyone else gets on.
